On Saturday, January 7th, The Family Center’s rooms and hallways were filled with client families and their children, despite the blizzard raging outside. In the morning, clients gathered to learn more about banking, banking products and working with banks, as part of The Family Center Leadership Council’s Financial Literacy Workshop Series. Later that day, client families brought their children to Project Sunshine, a group that encourages the whole family to get involved in art and cooking projects. And the year has only just begun!
This month alone, The Family Center is offering many more groups to kick off the New Year. The diverse array of activities that these groups offer underscore our commitment to keeping our client families stronger, longer. We strive not only to provide evidence-based programs that secure positive, sustainable outcomes, but also to offer exciting enrichment activities for the whole family and all its members.
Some January 2017 Groups at The Family Center include:
- Planned Parenthood’s Adult Role Models (ARM) Program is back, thanks to our collaboration with this community partner. Comprised of four sessions, ARM helps parents and caregivers talk to their children about sex and sexuality.
- Only Make Believe is also returning. At this interactive theater workshop, children, parents and caregivers dress up and act out skits, led by volunteers from NYC’s thriving theater industry.
- This month’s meeting of the LGBTQ Dinner Series will involve a movie night on January 25th. Creating a welcoming space for those who identify as part of the LGBTQ community and receive service from The Family Center, this Dinner Series encourages open discussion, the sharing of personal stories and general community building.
