Hepatitis C Overview

Description: Social services providers are in a unique position to offer support to clients living with or at risk for Hepatitis C (HCV). This two-hour webinar provides an overview of HCV transmission, disease progression, testing, and treatment.

Target Audience: Non-physician health and human services providers, including case managers, social workers, patient navigators, and peer workers.

Older Women Living with HIV: Optimizing Mental and Emotional Health

The goal of this two-hour webinar is to inform providers working with older women living with HIV about their specific mental and emotional health needs, and how this relates to overall health.

Hepatitis C and Pregnancy

Format: 2-hour Webinar

Description: The goal of this two-hour webinar is to bring awareness to the topic of Hepatitis C among pregnant persons and people with the capacity to get pregnant, support non-clinicals providers in understanding the importance of promoting health among clients as it relates to Hepatitis C, and educate providers about the importance of linkages to care and reducing potential Hepatitis C transmission.

Target Audience: Non-medical service providers, such as case managers, social workers, patient navigators, peer workers; and People living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C.

Older Women Living with HIV: Sex, Health, and Vitality

Motivational Interviewing: Skills Practice for Hepatitis C Service Provision

Format: 2-part, 4-hour Webinar

Description: This two-part, four-hour training (two 2-hour sessions) is for health and human service providers who work with people who are living with, or at risk for, hepatitis C (HCV). The goal of this training is to provide participants with an opportunity to practice Motivational Interviewing (MI) in order to engage and support clients living with or at risk for HCV in prevention, testing, and treatment. This course will review key concepts of MI, including how to recognize change talk to address client ambivalence about engaging in HCV screening and treatment. 

Target Audience: Non-physician health and human services providers, including case managers, social workers, substance use counselors, patient navigators, and peer workers.

Prerequisite: It is recommended that participants have taken the training “Hepatitis C Overview."

September Trainings:

Ageism, Intersectional Stigma, and Sexuality among Older Adults Living with HIV

Sep 10th 1:00 pm-3:30 pm 

Format: 2 ½ hours Webinar

Description: This 2 ½ hour session is aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness among social services providers of the effects of stigma and ageism on older adults living with HIV and building capacity to comprehensively assess sexual wellness. Participants will learn how stigma can directly and negatively affect health outcomes for people living with HIV, including viral load suppression. Participants will learn how ageism manifests in healthcare and social services settings and how stigma affects sexual wellness amongst older adults.  Lastly, participants will learn strategies to comprehensively assess sexual wellness amongst older adults living with HIV. 

Target Audience: Non-physician health and human services providers, including case managers, social workers, substance use counselors, patient navigators, and peer workers.

Impact of HIV on Older Gay Men/MSM

Description:

In this 90-minute webinar, health and human services providers will learn the most current epidemiological data regarding gay men and MSM living with HIV.  Data will be used to explain the scope of the problem and why HIV is rising among older adults—specifically older gay men and MSM. Participants will analyze how data shapes and impacts our work with this vulnerable population.

Target Audience:  Health and social services providers, peer educators, and anyone in the general public with an interest in HIV/AIDS.

Adherence Issues for Older Gay Men/MSM Living with HIV

Description:

This 90-minute webinar for health and human services providers will take a deep look at understanding how we can support our clients who identify as older gay men and MSM living with HIV. We will focus on the challenges these clients may face regarding medication adherence, and linkage to and retention in care.

Target Audience: Health and social services providers, peer educators, and in the general public with an interest in HIV/AIDS.

Functional Screening for People Aging with HIV

Format: 2-part, 6-hour Webinar

Description: The purpose of this 6-hour, multi-session training series (three, 2-hour sessions) is to prepare individuals–including social workers, non-clinical staff, and peer workers, to understand and administer functional screenings for aging, such as the WHO ICOPE Screening Tool, that has been modified by the AIDS Institute for use with PAWH and LTS. 

Target Audience: Non-physician health and human service providers who work with PAWH or LTS, including NYS Certified Peer Workers, case managers, social workers, and others.

Prerequisite: It is not a requirement, but it is recommended participants have previously taken training on HIV and aging.

Barriers to Care for Older Gay Men/MSM Living with HIV

Format: 90-minute webinar

Description:

In this 90-minute webinar, health and human services providers will explore the current structures of providing secondary prevention to older gay men and MSM living with HIV. Participants will discuss how access to these secondary prevention strategies is frequently thwarted by homophobia, ageism, and societal stigmas. The issue of improving agency spaces for MSM PLWH will also be addressed.

Target Audience: Health and social services providers, peer educators, and anyone in the general public with an interest in HIV/AIDS.

Prerequisite: None. It is recommended that participants previously attended “Overview of HIV.”
