Holidays at TFC

On Saturday, December 19th, client families and their children gathered together with Family Center Board members, Leadership Council members, staff and volunteers to celebrate the holiday season.  Children created snowflakes, enjoyed a quick snack and visited with -who else?- Santa!

Thanks to Santa, volunteers from Liquidnet for Good and New York Life, as well as other supporters from organizations throughout the community, this celebration brought cheer to children whose struggle with the familial crisis, illness or loss that brought them to our doors in the first place.

Every client family also left the party with a big hefty bag of toys and gifts.  The Family Center is tremendously grateful to our Toy Drive Sponsors, who assiduously purchase these toys, collect and store them months in advance, and finally help us deliver them to the children.  Donors come from the following companies, faith-based communities and groups, all of whom brightened the holidays for over 1,000 children and teens.

Liquidnet for Good, Winged Keel Group and Kohl’s also made generous donations to support The Family Center’s work.  And well in advance of Saturday, December 19th, Kohl’s Associates in Action were standing in for Santa’s elves at The Family Center.  Kohl’s Associates sorted toys in the days leading up to the 19th, so that our social workers, attorneys and mental health counselors could more easily locate gifts for the children on their caseloads.

Even prior to that, The Family Center was planning for the holidays.  On Friday, December 4th, volunteers from the MAC AIDS Fund came to our Brooklyn office to create Santa’s backdrop for photos and otherwise decorate for our client families and their children.

The Family Center is grateful to everyone who supported our holiday festivities and Toy Drive for the children receiving our services.

Thank you one and all!  A Happy Holiday and Happy, Healthy New Year to You and Yours!
