On Sunday, September 18th, over 23 runner and walkers joined The Family Center Pink Ladies & Gents in Central Park for the 2011 Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure®. Participants included TFC staff members, Buddy pairs and other members of our extended ‘family’, many of whom understand firsthand the terrible toll that breast cancer can take on families.
For many years, The Family Center has received much-needed funding from The Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This partnership allows us to serve breast cancer survivors and their families in Central Brooklyn where low screening and detection rates have led to significantly poor health indicators related to this illness. The Family Center’s goal is to work with Komen Greater NYC -not only to support these breast cancer survivors with legal and social services, but also to comfort and answer their children, who might ask, “Who will take care of me?”
The Family Center Pink Ladies & Gents, who walked and ran on September 18th, help us answer that question. If you’d like to support their efforts, The Family Center, and Komen Greater NYC’s incredible work to ‘run breast cancer out of town,’ you can still donate by clicking here.
