YOU are the difference between foster care and a loving home

Your donation keeps food on the table, a roof over each client family’s head, and children in loving homes following a parent’s death.  The Family Center connects clients to food stamps, safe and affordable housing, and legal services that provide for the future care of their children.

Stories from a past Annual Report illustrate this work:

  • The Family Center
  • Sibia’s mother Suhanny was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer; she returned to her birthplace in Honduras to say goodbye to family and friends. Due to a complicated passport issue, 8-year old Sibia never made it to Honduras and missed saying goodbye when her mother passed. Thanks to The Family Center’s legal team, Sibia is growing up in the loving home of her grandmother.  She has a mentor in The Family Center Buddy Program and she and her sister are also in group counseling.  Slowly, Sibia and her family are healing from their loss.
  • When Erica was eight, she and her mom, Adrianna, were inseparable, but Adrianna’s health was rapidly declining and within four years she was gone. During those four years, Family Center attorneys worked with Adrianna to arrange for Erica to go live with an aunt in Virginia eventually. Now at 24, Erica has become a guardian herself- taking on the responsibility of raising her brother’s child, when he and the baby’s mother were unable. Through a rocky past to a hopeful present, Erica is paying it forward like so many Family Center clients who benefit from our expert services and the embrace of our community.
