Early Childhood Programming Renewed & Expanded

The Family Center is enjoying delightful déjà vu.  This is the 2nd time that our agency received the only federal Abandoned Infants Assistance (AIA) program grant awarded in New York State.

Two of The Family Center's youngest clients share a hug.

Our parenting and child development programming, funded by AIA in 2008, has helped hundreds of New York City’s HIV-affected families with small children.  Working together with these client families, The Family Center has achieved solid, sustainable outcomes, like reducing the likelihood of a child’s hospitalization and decreasing parents’ and caregivers’ depression.

With this renewed grant award, The Family Center will continue working with client families to increase their children’s school readiness.  We also plan to launch a pilot project expanding our parenting and child development services to families with children exposed to substances in-utero.  Finally, our newly refunded parenting and child development programming contains a rigorous research component.  Data will help The Family Center improve services for our youngest clients and keep their families stronger, longer.
